Bank Employee Strike on July 28, 2006

Bank employees and officers affiliated to the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees’ Federation of India (BEFI) will observe a one-day “stay-out” strike on July 28. About 4.5-lakh bank employees and officers who are members of these three unions will be on strike.

The bank unions are protesting against outsourcing of banking services, establishment of Payment Corporation of India for clearing house operations, the Banking Amendment Bill, which includes removal of ceiling on voting right, and 74 per cent FDI participation.

The unions are also demanding fresh recruitment for filling up one-lakh vacancies in public sector banks and extension of one more option for pension.
