Dear Hiten. My guess is that this "tough" budget will cut down subsidies on petroleum
products and food, government expenditure on so called "welfare schemes" to meet the increase in
expenditure on defense of our country. Some taxes may also have to be increased so that
the impact of the designs of our neighbouring country can be neutralised. While one does
not mourn the demise of subsidies and welfare schemes as the benefits, in any case, were
not reaching the targetted groups, one wishes that at least a part of this could be
funded from reduction in some of the government's own obscene expenditure.
