Dr. Kumta holds a Masters in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute and a Doctorate in Management Studies from Mumbai University through SVKM's NMIMS University. She is also the recipient of the Diploma in Bank Management awarded by the National Institute of Bank Management.

Her industrial experience spans Manufacturing, Strategic Business Planning, Banking and Information Systems. She has handled projects covering system study and implementation of software systems in the Banking segment. Dr. Kumta was also actively involved in software quality assurance and the organisational capability certification process at CMC Limited, Mumbai where she spent over 15 years.

Presently Dr. Kumta is Professor of IT at SVKM's NMIMS University. Dr Kumta is also a member of Board of Advisors of the Banknet Group
