Reserve Bank of India is organising an international research conference on "Challenges to Central Banking in the Context of Financial Crisis"

The Reserve Bank of India is organising an international research conference on "Challenges to Central Banking in the Context of Financial Crisis" on February 12 and 13, 2010 at Mumbai.

The theme of the Conference, “Challenges to Central Banking in the Context of Financial Crisis", is of contemporary relevance, which sketches a broad canvas of issues emanating from the crisis that could redefine the role of central banks. The various sessions in the two-day conference will address issues, such as, the challenges and response to conduct monetary policy during the financial crisis; globalisation, market failures and challenges posed to central banks; disruptions in financial systems and challenges to regulation and supervision; and financial stability as an objective of monetary policy. The conference would provide a useful forum to exchange views and research findings on issues relevant from a central bank's perspective, which would provide valuable insights into the policy making.

More than 50 international dignitaries, including seven Central Bank Governors, several Deputy Governors, academicians and eminent personalities from international financial organizations, such as, the IMF, the World Bank and the Bank for International Settlements are expected to participate in the conference. In addition around 50 domestic experts including chairmen of nationalised banks, private banks and other financial institutions as well as eminent personalities from academics, financial sector and media will also participate.

The objective of the conference is to bring together veteran central bankers, academicians, policy makers, financial regulators and supervisors and private sector experts on a common platform to share their thoughts and evolve policy responses on a subject of topical interest.

The year 2009-10 marks the Platinum Jubilee year of the Reserve Bank of India. In the Platinum Jubilee Year, the Reserve Bank has organised a series of events including learning events to build support for the RBI’s agenda and to showcase the Reserve Bank as a knowledge institution, internal events involving current and former RBI staff to reinforce a sense of belonging and inclusiveness among members of the RBI family and the outreach programme the focus of which is financial inclusion and financial literacy.
