Baring Asia invests US$ 44 million in Karvy Stock Broking


Baring Private Equity Asia, the Hong Kong-based private equity investment and buyout firm has announced that an affiliate has entered into a joint agreement with ICICI Venture to acquire a significant stake in Karvy Stock Broking Limited , one of India’s leading integrated financial services enterprises.

The deal includes the buyout of a stake held by existing investor Pacific Century Group, as well as the infusion of fresh capital into KSBL. The capital will be utilised for further expansion and other working capital requirements. Baring Asia and ICICI Venture will have a significant stake in the Company after this transaction.

KSBL is a member of both the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange. It has 580 offices covering 350 cities/towns, including offices in Dubai and New York. In addition to offering broking services to over 350,000 retail investors, KSBL also has a Private Client desk catering to high net worth individuals and corporates, and an Institutional desk servicing various domestic and foreign financial institutions.

It offers both cash and derivatives trading and its average daily turnover is approximately US$ 375 mn, making the company one of India’s top broking firms. KSBL also has a well-qualified research team based out of Mumbai and Hyderabad and is a key player in the Wholesale Debt Market Segment of the NSE.
