Subject: Any scholarship for higher education to ST Students?
Message : A new Central Sector Scholarship Scheme of Top Quality Higher Education to Students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, to be implemented from 2007-08 cover students beyond 12th class, whose total family income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2.00 lakh per annum. The ST students will be awarded a scholarship to meet the requirements for –

(i) full tuition fee and other non-refundable dues in respect of Government/Government funded institutions. However, there will be a ceiling of Rs.2.00 lakhs p.a. per student for private sector institutions and Rs.3.72 lakhs per student for the private sector flying clubs for Commercial Pilot Training;

(ii) Living expenses will be provided as per actuals subject to maximum ceiling of Rs.3000/- per month per student;

(iii) Books and stationery @ Rs.3000/- per annum per student;

(iv) Full cost of a latest computer along with its accessories limited to Rs.45,000/- as one time assistance during the course.

The Scheme will be funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs on 100% basis. In the first year of implementation of the Scheme, a sum of Rs.20.46 crore will be required, which will go up to Rs.60.42 crore in the fifth year.

According to the government, the Scheme is likely to benefit 635 students in first year and 7910 students during the five year period of its operation.
