Central Bank of India celebrates World Consumer Rights Day
Mumbai, 18, March, 2010:
Central Bank of India celebrated World Consumer Rights Day, by organizing a seminar for senior citizens, in association with Consumer Association of India and National Housing Bank. The seminar aimed to disseminate information on the Bank’s CentSwabhiman (Reverse Mortgage Loan-RML) scheme and CentSwabhiman Plus (Reverse Mortgage Loan enabled Annuity - RMLeA) scheme to the senior citizens at Chennai.
Mr. K.S. Sripathi, Chief Secretary, Govt of Tamilnadu, graced the occasion. Addressing the gathering, he lauded the efforts of the bank, in reaching out to the senior citizens and launching such innovative schemes to help them lead their lives with dignity. He also suggested that the banks should ensure that the benefits of the schemes should reach the beneficiaries, with ease and comfort. On the occasion he handed over sanctions of Rs.6.91 crores under the above schemes made by the Bank to senior citizens.
Mr. S. Sridhar, Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank said that the schemes were more a service, than a selling product. Further he said that he would take up with the Finance Ministry for tax exemption for the recently launched annuiy scheme. Mr. S. Kannan, General Manager of the Bank at Chennai, welcomed the gathering. Mr. R. Desikan, trustee of the Consumer Association of India and a ardent consumer rights activist spoke on the role and responsibilities of the loan beneficiaries. Officials from National Housing Bank & Star Union Daichi Life Insurance spoke on the occasion.
