Bank of India completes 60 years of operations in Japan

Srinagar, March 31, 2010:

Bank of India completed 60 years of operations in Japan. Established on 7th September 1906 in India, the Bank commenced its Japan operations by opening a branch at Tokyo on the 17th of May 1950 followed by a second branch at Osaka on the 20th October 1950.It was the first foreign bank to open in the post War Japan. The Bank is actively involved in chanelising ODA loan assistance to India as well as JICA loans to Indian Corporates.

To mark the occasion, the Indian Minster of State for Finance Hon'ble Shri Namo Narain Meena visited Tokyo on 23rd of July, 2010. Accompanied by the Chairman and Managing Director of the Bank Shri Alok K. Misra and Executive Director Shri B.A. Prabhakar a function was held in Tokyo where, in addition to the Chief Guest- the Minister of State - the Ambassador of India to Japan H.E. Shri. Hemant Krishan Singh was the Guest of Honor.



Releasing a Souvenir on the Bank's international operations, Shri Meena also launched its website in Japanese on the occasion.

The international operations of the Bank has entered its 65th year in July 2010. With presence in 18 countries through 24 branches, 5 Representative Office , 2 Subsidiaries and 1 Joint Venture, foreign operations contribute over 17% of the Bank's business mix.
