Mumbai- 26th July 2005

Mumbai came to an abrupt halt on 26th July, as unprecedented heavy rains stopped rail and bus traffic, silenced mobiles and land lines and tripped power lines. Above all the roads were blocked. People were stuck at workplaces, stations, in cars.

3. The Government of Maharashtra declared public holidays on July 27 and 28, 2005, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 in the districts of Mumbai, Thane and Raigad.

4. The Income-tax department has extended the last date for filing income-tax returns to August 31, 2005 for Maharastra. Earlier the last date for filing the return was July 31, 2005.
