Into the Mind of the Indian ATM User Banknet launches "ATM User Survey 2008"
The introduction of the automated teller machine (ATM) has been one of the most significant examples of technology advancement in the banking industry. ATMs have been used by banks not only to expand their reach to customers, but also to offer value-added services.
With the introduction of biometric ATMs, this channel has expanded a bank’s reach to the rural masses. The number of ATMs installed in India grew almost by 28%, with figures reaching more than 31,000 by December 2007. ATMs have continued to service the populace; they offer convenience to customers and provide banking services well beyond the traditional banking.
Banknet has launched ATM User Survey 2008, which is being conducted online on www.banknetindia.com. Banknet will release the findings of this Survey at Banknet’s “Second Annual Conference on Indian ATM Industry” on 16th May 2008 at Mumbai. Survey findings will also be incorporated in the second edition of “Banknet’s Report on Indian ATM Industry” also being released at the ATM Conference.
This Exclusive Conference on ATM Industry will discuss Key trends and developments in the Indian ATM Industry , ATM usage and transaction fee trends, Integration of various networks, Value-added services, Newest technologies and applications of promise, White-label ATMs, Biometric ATMs, Third parties advertisement, Points-of-Sale, Kiosks and much more
According to Mr. Anurag Khanna, CMD, Banknet Group, this survey will give Banks and vendors an insight into ATM users’ perceptions about problems faced by them and ways & means to make an ATM transaction user friendly and satisfying.
This survey is timely as Reserve Bank of India has recently laid down a framework of service charges to be implemented by all banks, under which, balance enquiries from any bank’s ATM in India, withdrawals from other bank ATMs would be completely free by April 2009. RBI feels that cost effective access to ATMs will encourage usage of ATMs.
In 2006, Banknet had conducted a similar survey on the Indian ATM users which showed some significant results – ATMs are seen to be more than mere cash dispensing machines. Customers use ATMs to recharge their mobile phone pre-paid connections, pay their utility bills, even mutual fund transactions, making them at par with flexibility given in internet banking. It therefore encourages a cashless society. Thus, eliminating the risk of loss of cash through theft or otherwise as witnessed in the past, creating a win-win scenario for parties concerned.
BANKNET GROUP, promoted and managed by senior bankers is focused on disseminating banking and financial information through Online, Offline, Print and Mass Media. Banknet’s online banking and technology portal www.banknetindia.com is ranked among the top 25 banking sites and the top 20 banking technology sites in the world.
