I am surprised that mutual funds, the most popular way of investments, worldwide are not given due importance by the Indian government.|
1. The Budget has given the benefits of exemption for long-term capital gains and reduction of rates in short-term capital gains to 10% for gains in securities listed on a recognised stock exchange. But, Mutual funds have been excluded from the benefit.
2. Though, Equity oriented mutal funds will be exempt from tax on dividends but Debt-oriented MFs to be taxed.
