Banknet’s Master Class Workshop on “Re-thinking Banking Business with a Payments Lens” conducted by McKinsey will be organized on the sidelines of Banknet’s Fifth International Bank Tech Summit on 24th September 2009 at Taj Lands End, Mumbai.

India is an immense and extremely unique market with a nascent payments industry that seems solidly poised for dramatic growth. With total payment flows approaching $9 trillion, India’s payments industry has revenues of nearly $14 billion, with most transactions flowing to and within the business sector. As the payments infrastructure develops, we anticipate greater intermediation by banks to spur revenue growth by about 17 percent CAGR, delivering annual revenues in excess of $40 billion by 2015.
Although sources vary widely by bank, payments, on average, currently contributes about 30 percent of bank revenues. However, Indian banks are not leveraging the payments opportunity fully. Payment products get subsumed within various verticals in a bank and hence, often, payments as a "horizontal", does not get the appropriate level of focus. As a result, many institutions do not achieve their "natural" market share in payments related revenues.
Presentations at the Master Class will highlight key insights from overall market trends, successful strategies that certain players have adopted and what execution has entailed and what the potential size of the "prize" for a banking institution could be.
