Serious challenge to the sustenance of Indian BPO leadership in the coming years

As far as Russia and South Africa are concerned, while technological revolution is taking place in Russia with a speed that has stunned most of the developing nations including India to improve its technical skills, the South Africa has benefits in terms of similar time-zone similar to Europe, easy accessibility to Europe and its English speaking population.

Similarly, Ireland has a good brand equity in US and excellent regulatory framework and quality standards will stand the country in good step so far as the future BPO is concerned.

It is observed in the analysis that in India, the advantages are availability of skilled manpower, linguistic capabilities, low labour costs, favourable time zone, embedded Indians, sound internet and telecom connectivity. It is increasingly being felt that advantages India holds might not be sustainable in the long run because the other countries in the world are aggressively moving forward in upgrading their technical skills as compared to India.

ASSOCHAM, therefore, has suggested that India needs to adopt a medium-long term sustainable strategy to continuously innovate and add value to processes and provide an end-to-end solution to global clients.

The Indian government should introduce more language specific curricula at the school level to produce technically superior manpower. The ASSOCHAM is also of the view that Europe and Asia Pacific can be bigger BPO markets for India in future and therefore it should increasingly refocus its attention away from US. Japan for availing of BPO.
