FACTS ABOUT BUDGET 2012-13
Budget session of Parliament will start on March 12, with the Railway Budget slated to be presented on March 14. The government will table the Economic Survey 2011-12 data on March 15. The Survey is a document on the state of economy prepared by the economic division in the ministry of finance. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will present the Union Budget Parliament on March 16, 2012.
This is the 81st Indian Union Budget since Independence, First Union Budget was presented by then Finance Minister R K Shanmukham Chetty on November 26, 1947. The maximum number of 10 budgets have been presented by Morarji Desai, while Pranab Mukherjee, P Chidambaram, Yashwant Sinha, Y B Chavan and C D Deshmukh have presented seven budgets each. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and T T Krishnamachari, have presented six budgets each during their tenures in the Finance Ministry.
